Updated March 2026: New Locations Available!
Thanks to the generosity of Feeding Dreams and PBC Food Bank our library branches now hand out free weekend meal kits to children 18 and under every Friday!
The Weekend Meal Kit Program was created to support children who may experience the 68-hour hunger gap between Friday afternoon and Monday when school resumes. The PFC Weekend Backpack Meals are carefully constructed to include nutritional offerings to feed children over the weekend who have little or no access to nutritional food in the home.
The PFC Weekend Backpack Meals contain an average of 29 nutritious, shelf-stable meal servings for children that meet or exceed the USDA recommendations for protein, calories and carbohydrates for elementary-aged children. Rotating between four nutritious menus, the PFC Weekend Backpack Program is paired with an additional supplemental extender meal that is easy to prepare and fortified in nutrition for all the children in the family.
Meals are distributed every Friday, while supplies last, to any individual 18 years of age or younger. With these additions, the program is now available at 12 locations.
How does it work? On Fridays, children can visit the Children's Department at any of the branches listed below. Simply ask for a weekend meal, and it's yours to take home!
We are proud to partner with organizations such as Feeding Dreams and the Palm Beach County Food Bank to realize our mission to connect communities, inspire thought and enrich lives. We hope that through this partnership, we can grow the next generation of leaders by feeding children's minds and bodies!
