Our Library offers a wide range of rewarding opportunities for individuals who are passionate about books, learning and community engagement. As a volunteer, you'll have the chance to assist with various tasks from shelving books and organizing materials to helping members find information and recommending titles.
If you are volunteering in-person for service credit, an application is required. You can download an application at the buttons below and contact your branch location for information about open positions. Applications are only accepted when volunteer positions are available.
Reading Buddies
Reading Buddies is a fun way to earn hours! Work one-on-one with K-5 students to improve reading comprehension. Reading Buddies is designed to give kids in grades K-5 extra reading practice one-on-one, or in a group setting, with a Teen Buddy. Each week, a child will be paired up with a Teen Buddy during a 45-minute session which includes 30 minutes of reading followed by 15 minutes of playing word-related games. Teen Buddies become role models and help teach children the importance and enjoyment of becoming lifelong readers
Royal Palm Beach
Each Wednesday from September 13th through October 25th, a child will be paired up with a Teen Buddy during a 45-minute session.
Teens will receive one hour of volunteer credit each week, volunteering from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Applicants must be between ages 12-17 and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicants must also provide 2 references.

Main Library
GREETER / CONCIERGE
To effectively assist the public in accessing the library resources.
TIME: 2 to 4 variable hours per week.
COMMITMENT: This position requires a 6-month commitment.
DUTIES:
- Act as a member's first access point to the library.
- Answer directional questions with the help of the greeter manual.
- Refer members to the Member's Services desk for detailed questions concerning library cards, borrowing, fine assessments, patron account information, and other circulation functions.
- Refer members to the Research Desk for subject searching, research and/or instruction in the use of library materials (including computer instruction).
- Refer members to the Children & Teens Services Desk for children’s literature, storytelling, and other programs. May assist with usher duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Interest in working with the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Display positive attitude and enthusiasm for reading and libraries.
TRAINING: Volunteer Coordinator/Volunteer Facilitator will provide initial orientation and on-the-job training.
SUPERVISION: Volunteers will be supervised by the Volunteer Facilitator and designated library staff.

Loula V. York (Pahokee)
VOLUNTEER TEEN ASSISTANT
Ages 12-17.
PURPOSE: Assist library staff in the children and teen areas.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to follow directions from library staff. Able to work independently or with others as assigned. A professional attitude when working in a public setting. Knowledge of alphabetical and numeric order which is necessary to shelve books and DVDs.
DUTIES: Arrange and sort library materials. Prepare craft projects using scissors and other supplies. Assist with story times, special activities and Summer Reading Program.
TIME REQUIREMENT: The minimum time required is two hours, one day a week with a flexible schedule. Volunteer service is based on the individual needs of the library. Reporting on time, calling when absent and logging volunteer hours are required for a positive volunteer experience.

Lantana Road Branch
SHELVER
2 to 4 variable hours per week.
This position requires a 6-month commitment.
DUTIES:
- Sorts and shelves books, paperbacks, magazines, newspapers, and audiobooks, and DVDs.
- Pick-up books on shelves, tables, or floor.
- Shift books as needed with direction from staff.
- Pulls books for seasonal displays, genre displays, or projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some knowledge of library filing.
- Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically.
- Ability to push book cart and reach top shelves and bottom shelves on the book aisles.
TRAINING: Volunteer Coordinator/Volunteer Facilitator will provide initial orientation and on-the-job training.
SUPERVISION: Volunteer will be supervised by the Volunteer Facilitator and designated library staff.
