Palm Beach County, FL – Palm Beach County teens are transforming their summer by mastering emergency safety skills and earning vital community service hours. This month, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has stopped by the Palm Beach County Library Branches throughout the county to share their knowledge.
Firefighters are training teens in how to use fire extinguishers, perform hands-only CPR and prevent dangerous situations as a babysitter. These activities bridge the gap between community safety and youth development. Teens attending the specialized babysitting workshop walk away with a Babysitting 101 Certificate of Participation, proving they have mastered the core safety skills needed to protect young children.
The collaborative summer program series brings active-duty firefighters directly into local library branches. Instead of just listening to lectures, teen participants engage in immersive, practical safety drills. More opportunities will be available in the fall.
“We are incredibly grateful for the invaluable time, expertise and resources that Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has dedicated to our youth this summer,” said Library Director Douglas Crane. “By working together, we are building a seamless safety network that equips our youth with life-saving skills, creating a stronger, more resilient foundation for the next generation.”
