PBC Library at the Compass Pride Market

A Library staff member smiles in front of the brick wall display, now covered in nametags. Library staff sit at a booth at the Compass Pride Market. They have a crate full of Pride flags. A man is pointing at the Library's brick wall display and chatting with the staff.

At Compass’ Pride Market in March, the Palm Beach County Library System's Rainbow Roundtable put up a large fabric brick wall and let people do name tagging, a form of graffiti, to make a visual of the LGBTQIA+ community. The wall ended up with 171 tags for the weekend, which included single names, words of encouragement and whole group representation!

You might ask, "Why a brick wall?" The brick wall is in honor of Stonewall where riots and demonstrations happened that began the LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement. And the name tags? A show of identity and putting yourself, your message and your art out into the world.
