On the Road: PBCLS Debuts the New Bookmobile
The Palm Beach County Library System is hitting the road with a fresh, modern twist on mobile library service. After a ribbon-cutting celebration on Oct. 16 at the Main Library in West Palm Beach, the newly redesigned Bookmobile is officially rolling into neighborhoods across the county.
Designed as a fully functional mobile branch, the Bookmobile brings books, technology and popular library services directly to the community. Visitors of all ages can browse materials, borrow items, place holds, pick up requests and even sign up for a library card all without stepping inside a traditional library building.
The Bookmobile began its community stops the week following the launch, with early routes including municipal locations such as South Palm Beach. Additional sites will rotate in regularly as the schedule expands. Residents can check the online calendar for upcoming stops and follow PBCLS social media channels for route updates, photos and highlights from each visit.
For many patrons, mobile service offers more than convenience. The Bookmobile helps bridge gaps for those who face transportation, time or mobility challenges, ensuring that books, digital resources and staff expertise remain accessible to everyone. By delivering library services directly into neighborhoods, PBCLS continues to support reading, learning and community connection countywide.
