Each November, Movember encourages conversations about men’s health and raises awareness of issues including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
The movement began with a simple idea: grow a moustache during November and use it as a way to start conversations about health. Since then, Movember has grown into an international campaign encouraging men to take a more active role in their physical and mental well-being.
Health concerns are often easier to address when they are recognized early. Routine checkups, regular physical activity, balanced nutrition and healthy sleep habits can all contribute to long-term wellness. Just as important is paying attention to stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns and knowing when to ask for help.
Health and Wellness Resources at the Library
The Palm Beach County Library System offers several resources for finding reliable health information. Gale Health & Wellness provides information about health conditions, medications and wellness topics, while Gale Health & Medicine OneFile includes articles from nursing and allied health publications. MedlinePlus offers easy-to-understand information for patients and families. The Library also connects members with local and national resources addressing mental health, preventive care and other health needs.
Health and wellness events are offered throughout the Library System and a credentialed Health & Wellness librarian can provide personalized assistance with finding trustworthy information.
Start the Conversation
Movember is also a reminder to check in on friends and family members. A simple conversation can sometimes encourage someone to schedule an appointment, seek support or talk openly about something they have been avoiding.
Use November as a reminder to start the conversation, ask questions and make your health a priority throughout the year.
