Each October, Italian American Heritage and Culture Month recognizes the history, traditions and contributions of people of Italian descent. Italian Americans have made lasting contributions to art, science, education, public service, business, sports, music, film and food.
A Rich History
- Congress designated October as Italian American Heritage and Culture Month in 1989. President George H.W. Bush recognized the observance with Proclamation 6045.
- Approximately four million Italians immigrated to the United States between 1880 and 1920.
- About 122,560 Palm Beach County residents, or 8% of the county’s population, report Italian ancestry.
