    DESCRIPTION: Assists the Department Director in planning, organizing and directing the Palm Beach County Library System which consists of the Main Library and 16 Branch Libraries, approximately 400 employees and an operating budget in excess of $48 million, funded by a separate millage. The Library serves a diverse, multi-cultural population of almost one million residents. The Assistant Director assists in the administration and supervision of the operations of the library system, including the development of policy, supervision of personnel, planning and organization of services to the public and development of administrative procedures; supervises a workforce that provides a richly varied array of programs and services which include online resources available at, outreach to residents of all ages and circumstances, approximately 2 million holdings, brisk annual circulation of 9 million and imaginative reference services.

    The Palm Beach County Library System is a distinguished regional library, having won the 2014 Florida Library of the Year and 2014 National Talking Books for the Blind awards. The Library recently completed an extensive capital projects improvement campaign that included renovating/expanding 12 existing branches and designing, building and opening 5 new buildings.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association; minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible library experience which includes five (5) years of related supervisory experience.

    OTHER: Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment. THIS IS AN AT-WILL POSITION.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience in library or general clerical work that involves extensive public contact OR 12-semester/18-quarter hours of college-level course work (must specify on application).
