Palm Beach County Library System is seeking friendly, customer-oriented staff. We are a busy, fully automated, southeastern Florida library system serving a population of 865,541 with a Main Library, 16 branches, and Outreach Services with 450 employees. To apply for open positions, you may:

    DESCRIPTION: Performs paraprofessional work involving services on the bookmobile; drives the bookmobile; charges and discharges materials to the public; registers borrowers; retrieves library materials; advises public on materials to meet reading needs; assists with maintaining bookmobile collection; notifies patrons when reserved books will be at their bookmobile stop; uses computers for bibliographic searching; performs minor troubleshooting of equipment while the bookmobile is on the road.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of college-level course work (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours) OR one (1) year of college-level course work (must specify 30-semester/45-quarter hours) AND two (2) years of experience working in a library.

    OTHER: Ability to lift 50 pounds preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

    PREFERENCE OF EXPERIENCE: Providing customer service involving direct public contact; driving a large vehicle as part of employment (must specify on application); working in a bookstore/with senior citizens; using an automated circulation system/internet/computers in the work environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association; minimum of three (3) years of professional library experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory or administrative work.

    PREFERENCE OF EXPERIENCE: Conducting oral presentations/ speaking in public; managing a library's major department/branch; training/ supervising personnel for more than three (3) years; using automated circulation systems (must specify on application).
