Cataloging & Database Management Section
The cataloging/database management section adds new titles to our catalog in all formats: books, videos, DVDs, music CDs, kits,
books on tape and books on CD. We also keep the catalog up-to-date
with new and revised subject headings and name entries, and maintain
the authority file, which provides name and subject cross-references
in our catalog.
Contact us if you have questions about:
call numbers
subject headings and cross-references
McNaughton or Landmark titles (bibliographic records)
record display and access in iBistro (what appears, how
and why)
(Contact: Sue Bermann at or 561/649-5415)
A cataloging section tidbit: Section staff catalog approximately
14,000 titles per year in all formats. We input an average of 250
McNaughton titles per month and 350 Landmark titles per quarter.
Item Database Management / Materials Processing /
Warehouse Section
The item database management / materials processing / warehouse
section is responsible for adding new copies into the
catalog, processing new library material, and managing the Warehouse
Collection. We create a record in SIRSI for each new copy, place
item labels (barcodes), branch stickers, security strips, covers,
title and spine labels on new print and AV material. We also fill
daily requests for books in the Warehouse collection. The collection
consists of 70,000 volumes of fiction and non-fiction books.
Contact us if you have questions about:
copy or branch information
a leased copy added to SIRSI incorrectly
availability of material in the Warehouse
transferring books from the Warehouse to a new location
(Contact: Ray Lamar at or 561/649-5432)
A processing section fun fact: We use 250,000 barcode labels per
year: about half for new cataloged material and half for leased
material added at the branches.
