On Wednesday, October 1, 2008, the Palm Beach County Library System is unveiling a new logo and tagline which focuses on the library customer’s experience. The new tagline: “Dream. Discover. Do.,” reflects the changes in the Library environment – the library is no longer a repository of books and quiet study. It is an inviting community location where people gather to use the computer, socialize with friends, attend programs, access informational resources and check out the latest materials including CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, online databases and new releases.
The new logo features a fun, friendly typeface and a warm tropical color palette that is fresh and inviting. These elements better reflect the Library’s warm, inviting atmosphere where people of all ages can enjoy learning and experiencing new things.
With tax reform, a failing economy and the real estate crash it is even more important that the residents of Palm Beach County have access to the myriad resources that are available free of charge at 15 Library System locations. The Library offers assistance with e-government, community health information and small business assistance. In addition, a wide variety of programs are offered monthly for children, teens and adults.
In 2002, the residents of Palm Beach County dreamed about a better library system and voted for it. Today that dream is becoming a reality. We have completed five Library Expansion projects, are nearing completion on three and will begin work on two more in the coming months. The public has already discovered the improvements to the library system which is evident by the record 7.3 million items checked out in FY08. That’s over a million more items than last year.
John J. Callahan III, Library Director, said, “The Library continues to change to meet the needs of the community, but our goal remains to provide the best customer service to each of our customers, to provide educational and entertaining experiences for life-long learning and love of reading. We strive to make each experience an enjoyable one.”
The new identity is based on months of internal and external research with input from the library community and our customers. The branding has been done in a fiscally responsible way. We have been closely monitoring our inventory of corporate materials with the old logo and ordering supplies with new branding as needed. Monthly materials which advertise upcoming programs and events have been updated with the new branding. New signage has been added in the Library locations to enhance the customer’s experience by making materials easier to find. A new publication, Library Services A-Z, which includes information about all the library products and services, will be printed in place of eleven other brochures. We are also converting other publications to bookmark format which customers are more likely to refer to and keep.
The Library web site, pbclibrary.org will also receive a new look. Additional redesign on the site will take place in the coming months.
