November 2009 marks the Palm Beach County Library System’s 6th Annual Families Reading Together Campaign. This event serves to remind the community of the importance of sharing books with children and encouraging them to read on their own. This project is made possible by community sponsors and all events are free to the public.
During this year’s Families Reading Together celebration, all preschoolers and children attending kindergarten through first grade will be encouraged to read From Head to Toeby Eric Carle. Elementary school and public libraries will conduct special programs for the event. Additional outreach programming for day care centers will be provided by the Palm Beach County Library System.
Kicking off the festivities on November 7th, the Palm Beach County Library System has planned a day of exciting activities at Okeeheelee Nature Center. Children showing their library card will receive a book of their choice and a gift bag (while supplies last). Other activities in November will include Busch Wildlife Sanctuary animal programs and a bookmark design contest.
Teens will not be left out of the fun. High school photography students will submit photos that capture the natural beauty of Palm Beach County. These photographs will be displayed all month at the new Pine Jog Environmental Education Center’s Gallery.
