Getting Together During
Family Reunion Month
By Gina Sousa, Royal Palm Beach Branch
Getting together with family and friends is
one of life’s greatest pleasures. And summer
is the perfect time to gather together with
loved ones from near and far.
Does the thought of organizing a large
family reunion seem daunting? Take the
first step by browsing the book stacks at
your local branch of the Palm Beach County
Library System.
Books such as “The Family Reunion Handbook,” by Thomas Ninkovich and “A Family
Affair,” by Sandra MacLean Clunies provide step-by-step instructions – from how to enlist
the help of other family members, to creating a budget for planning meals and activities.
Our large cookbook selection can fire your imagination on anything from ethnic cooking to
old-time favorites like mashed potatoes and meat loaf.
But what to do to keep both children and adults entertained? The Library has a large selection
of craft books for all ages – anything from jewelry-making to scrapbooking can provide
ideas, suggestions, and instructions in creating mementos for all participants to share.
Last, but certainly not least, family storytelling remains the family reunion’s all time favorite,
not just as a way to pass the time but as the perfect vehicle to pass down those unique
family tales that enrich the lives of generations to come. |
