Groundbreaking Held for Wellington
Library Expansion
County Commissioner Tony Masilotti, Wellington Mayor Tom Wenham,
and Library Director Jerry Brownlee, along with Wellington
village officials and members of the Library Advisory Board
broke ground on January 25 for expansion of the Wellington
Branch Library. When the project is completed, space at the
Wellington Branch will nearly quadruple, from 8,000 to 30,000
square feet. Improvements will include increased access to
computers, more meeting room space, more bookshelf space, a
child-friendly area nearly as large as the existing branch, and
a larger parking area.
The existing building will close in early April to facilitate
construction. Wellington residents will have access to a brand
new bookmobile, parked by the tennis courts at the Wellington
Community center and restocked daily with the latest fiction,
nonfiction, children's books, and A/V materials. Story hours
will be provided at the Wellington Community Center, and adults
and children will be welcomed at the nearby
Royal Palm Beach and
Greenacres Branches, and at the
Main Library. Research resources
are always available through the library's web site or by
calling Ask a Librarian or the
telereference service.
Also underway is the renovation of the Loula V. York Branch in
Pahokee. Started a little earlier than planned because of
extensive damage from Hurricane Wilma, the renovation is
expected to be completed in the spring.
