Live Homework Help™ is an online tutoring service from Tutor.com™ that allows students to connect to an expert tutor
either in any Library System location or from their home PC
or Mac with a library card, on Sunday through Thursday from
3:00-9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 2:00-7:00 p.m.
Free Help in Core Subjects
Get help in math (elementary, algebra, geometry, trigonometry
and calculus), science (elementary, earth science, biology,
chemistry, physics), social studies (American history, world
history, political science), and English (spelling,
grammar, essay writing, book reports).
Learn from Expert Tutors
in an Online Classroom
All tutors are certified teachers, college professors,
professional tutors, graduate, or undergraduate
school students from across the country. Every
tutor is certified by Tutor.com, and has completed
a third party background check.
During the 2007/2008 school year in Palm Beach
County, over 7,000 students completed Live Homework
Help sessions. In post-session surveys, they
reported the following:
- 96 percent are glad the public library
offers this service.
- 96 percent would recommend the service
to their friends.
- Over 89 percent feel the program is helping
them build confidence in their school work,
complete homework assignments, and improve
their grades.
English Exchange:
Meet New Friends & Practice Speaking English
Join Literacy AmeriCorps Member Paula Alexander in this interactive
program where you can practice speaking English while
talking about everyday situations and current events. Basic
English speaking skills are needed to participate. Seating is

As in previous years, the Library System is partnering with
McDonald’s and children who visit the library and sign up for,
or show, a library card will receive coupons for free McDonald’s
treats.
Now that youngsters are back in school, getting library cards

September 15 to October 15 has been designated
as National Hispanic Heritage Month as a way to
highlight and celebrate the many ways Hispanics
continue to make a positive impact on our communities.
As in previous years, the Library System joins in
this celebration with a variety of programs for both children and adults. Check the calendar
of events for programs at a library near you.

señalar y celebrar la contribución que los hispanos continúan aportando a la comunidad.
Igual que en años anteriores, el Sistema de Bibliotecas del Condado de Palm Beach se une a

The 2008 Great Grown-Up
Spelling Bee

Test your spelling prowess, have fun, and support literacy in your community. Cheer on the
Friends of the Palm Beach County Library System’s team as they compete at the Great Grown-
Up Spelling Bee on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the Harriet Himmel Theater at
City Place.
The team, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, features skillful staff spellers Aramis Troche
of the Greenacres Branch, Amanda Bosky and Annmarie Campbell of the Wellington Branch,
and Amanda Woolf of the Main Library. The Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee benefits the programs
