Directions
By Bus: Palm Tran Route #48
By Car: From East - Take Southern Blvd. (State Road 80)
west to the Glades area until you get to the County Complex on your
left. Instead of turning left to go to Belle Glade, keep going
straight onto a two-lane road called Hooker Highway (you will go
over railroad tracks). After a short distance you will come to a
blinking light and should turn right onto State Road 715. Continue
north on this road for 8-9 miles, into Pahokee (where the road
becomes Bacom Point Road), and the library will be on the left, just
after a small park and before the Post Office.
From South - Take State Road
80 north out of Belle Glade. When you reach the County Complex
on your right, turn left at the traffic lights onto Hooker Highway.
After a short distance you will come to a blinking light and should
turn right onto State Road 715. Continue north on this road for 8-9
miles, into Pahokee (where the road becomes Bacom Point Road), and the library will be on the left, just
after a small park and before the Post Office.

Description
The Pahokee Branch (Loula V. York
Branch) has a collection that serves a small but diverse community.
The Branch has a growing collection of Spanish materials for adults
and children. They also provide their patrons with access to
hundreds of periodicals through IAC, a service that provides
citations and text to thousands of articles for the personal and
educational use of patrons. Patrons have full access to the Internet
through FloriNet. The Gates Foundation gave the branch three
computers in 2000. Children have access to games as well as to
Encarta Encyclopedia and Encarta Africana Encyclopedia. In
addition, the branch provides computers for word processing.
The branch now has a computer to help adults learn to read.
Tutors and students, and some students on their own, may use the
programs to reach their reading goals. If you are interested
in helping teach someone to read or know some one who needs help
learning to read, call the branch.
History of the Branch
- Opened: LVY was a gift from the
U.S. Sugar Corp. in 1967 and opened as a city library in 1967.
The Library became a county facility in October 1989. The land
and building are owned by the County.
- Square Footage: 4,500 sq. ft.
- Renovated in 2006. Square footage 4700 sq
feet. Public seating for 36. Collection over 18,000.
- Expanded branch offers a completely new
collection with music CDs, books on CD, videos and DVDs and an
expanded Spanish language collection and young adult collection.
- Comfortable, teen-friendly area and attractive
children's area. Increased parking and lighting throughout
the building.
