3/ Database of the Month – The Wall Street
Journal
Where do you go to find the latest financial and
business news from the heart of the nation’s markets? Most
people turn to “The Wall Street Journal” for definitive
information and articles on both world and national business
stories. Now you have access to the Journal and its archives
free of charge through the library’s Electronic Databases page:
http://www.pbclibrary.org/edb/patronlinks.asp
The Wall Street Journal database contains
citations of articles that have appeared in this publication
since 1982 . You will find the full text of the paper in this
easy-to-search archive. Quick keyword searches can be performed
through the Basic Search page. Article searches can also be
limited to specific time periods, such as the last seven days.
For example, a search for articles on the big software company
Microsoft for the last three months turns up over 112 articles.
The topics for these articles range from the Xbox, to anti-trust
issues, and, naturally, news on profit projections for the
company. Articles found in the paper can be printed off with
ease, or even sent by e-mail to friends and co-workers.
InfoTrac is a great resource for articles from
newspapers and magazines. It is located in our Electronic
Databases page at:
http://www.pbclibrary.org/edb/patronlinks.asp
4/ A Quick Byte – The F2 Key
Have you ever wanted to rename a computer file
or favorite? The standard way to do it would involve
right-clicking on the item to open an option menu. However, you
can use the F2 key to rename an item when working in Windows.
Select any folder or file on your screen and then press F2. The
old name will be highlighted. At this point you can backspace
out the old name and start typing in a new one. After you type
the new name, click outside the file name box or press the enter
key to make the name change permanent.
5/ Next Month in Books & Bytes
Next month we will demonstrate how to locate the
names and contact information for all the elected officials in
Palm Beach County. We will help you get more out of your reading
by highlighting the “Literature Resource Center” in our
Electronic Databases.
Books & Bytes is published on the third Monday of each month.
