3/ Database of the Month – New York Times Current

“The New York Times” is arguably the most famous newspaper in the world. Its editorials and articles are read by people not only in the Big Apple, but across the country as well. So, if you are looking to read current articles from this famous newspaper, they can be found on our Electronic Databases page:
http://www.pbclibrary.org/edb/patronlinks.asp

The New York Times Current database contains articles from the last five years of the paper. You will find the full text of the paper in this easy to search archive. Quick keyword searches can be performed through the Basic Search page. Articles searches can also be limited to specific time periods, such as the last seven days. For example, a search for articles on the “Presidential Election” for the last three months turns up over 1100 articles. Articles found in the paper can be printed off with ease, or even sent by e-mail to friends and co-workers.

The New York Times Current database is supplied through ProQuest.

We invite you to enjoy browsing through the New York Times on our Electronic Databases page at:

4/ Thanksgiving Closings

All Palm Beach County Library System locations will be closing at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24. All locations will remain closed on Thursday, November 25 & Friday, November 26, for Thanksgiving.

All Palm Beach County Library System locations will be open on Saturday, November 27.

5/ A Quick Byte – Organizing Favorites

In Internet Explorer, users may bookmark web pages they frequently visit using the Favorites menu. Wise users keep these Favorites organized for easy access. The Organize Favorites menu, found under the Favorites box in the drop-down menu, provides an easy way to sort Favorites. The Organize Favorites window allows users to:

Create folders to group their Favorites;
Delete Favorites no longer being used;
Rename Favorites;
and Move Favorites from one folder to another.

When viewing the Organize Favorites window, a user can select the Favorite they wish to affect in the right hand window. Then they can press the appropriate button, such as delete or rename, to make the change. Moving Favorites opens an additional window with a list of folders to which the Favorite can be sorted. Keeping your Favorites organized will help to keep the web surfing experience easy and fun.

6/ Next Month in Books & Bytes

Next month we will highlight the new Legal Research section on our web site. We will also show you how to search for historical articles in “The New York Times” using our Electronic Databases.
