Reading Event
Described by The New York Times as "a classically trained, modernly hip Troupe," Aquila’s productions have received critical and audience acclaim for the past twenty years. Three years ago, they delighted Palm Beach County Library System patrons with their dramatic modern take on Homer’s Iliad as part of their “Page and Stage” national tour.
The reading event will include a repertoire of scenes from Greek drama, including
selections from Homer’s Odyssey, Aeschylus’ Agamemnon, Sophocles’ Ajax and
Euripides’ Herakles. It will include an introduction, performed readings, a post-show discussion and a town hall style meeting, including audience comments.
Post-Performance Discussion and “Town Hall Meeting”
After each reading event the program scholar will lead a town-hall-style discussion encouraging audience members to share their impressions and experiences guided by the scholar. Participants will see the reading of artistically enriching classical plays, and also gain experience in how to watch, appreciate and participate as a modern audience member viewing an ancient Greek play.
