Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
|
The Palm Beach County Library System invites you to the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. We celebrate our community’s cultural diversity, the beautiful traditions of Latin American countries, and the contributions Hispanics have made to American society. Join us for a wide variety of events for the entire family offered in both English and Spanish.
On Sat, Sep 09, at the Main Library, this month-long celebration will kick off with the children's Mexican folkloric dance group, México Mágico and a repertoire of traditional and contemporary melodies from the highlands of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, presented by Wayna, Music of the Andes.
Activities offered during Hispanic Heritage Month are made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library.

Quickbyte: Emergency by the American Red Cross
|
We are right in the middle of hurricane season, unfortunately, emergencies of all kinds can occur throughout the year. The time to prepare is now. One way to do that is by downloading the Emergency app, created by the American Red Cross. This free app, available for both iOS and Android devices, allows you to monitor conditions across the U.S., let your family know that you are safe in case of a disaster, and take steps to prepare yourself and your family for any type of crisis.
The app includes very specific steps that you can take to create an emergency plan, along with fun, interactive games and quizzes that allow you and your family to earn badges as you go. It offers severe weather alerts for your local area, including hurricanes, floods, extreme heat, and other scary occurrences. Emergency is fully customizable; there is pre-loaded content that will provide helpful contact information even if you are not connected to a mobile network. The app even provides a flashlight, alarm and strobe light in case searchers ever need to find you.
None of us expect to be in a situation where these tools are needed, but why not take a few minutes to be prepared just in case. Check out the Emergency app today!
