Bridging Faiths Series

The Palm Beach County Library System is proud to offer the Bridging Faiths series. A series designed to encourage awareness and understanding of the diverse community that makes the Palm Beaches a great place to live. This series, which began in July and continues through October, explores topics of fasting, religious attire, pilgrimages, tolerance, respect and forgiveness. Panels of religious leaders will demystify what makes each faith unique and what brings all faiths together.

The Palm Beach County Library System plays a significant role in connecting residents with one another, inspiring thoughtful and enlightening discussions, and enriching lives through the power of open access to information. The Bridging Faiths series is sponsored by the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library System.

Solar Eclipse

On Aug 21, the continental United States will be treated to a solar eclipse, with some parts of the country experiencing the first total eclipse since 1979. The path of totality, where the moon completely covers the sun, will pass through 14 states from Oregon to South Carolina. Numerous Palm Beach County Library System locations will be celebrating this significant event.

Before the big day, check out our exciting events that celebrate this memorable occasion. Whether you're an adult and want to hear from an eclipse expert at our Jupiter Branch, or want your children to share the experience, there’s an option for you.

Our view here in Palm Beach County will be partial, but proper eyewear is necessary! Grab a pair of eclipse viewing glasses and safely observe this astronomical phenomenon.

Quickbyte: LibraryThing

If you love to collect books, have a lot of books on your shelf, or just want reading suggestions, it’s time for you to check out LibraryThing (LT). LibraryThing allows you to create a database of your books and connect you to others with similar reading interests. You can track what you’re reading or what you want to read and meet other readers online. If you’ve ever thought about borrowing a book from the library but weren’t sure whether you have already read it, with a Wi-Fi connection you can find out with this app!

LibraryThing provides the opportunity to browse and search your library, add books to your collection by searching, scanning a barcode, or creating a record from scratch and you can add cover or other images to each book entry. You can also include CDs and DVDs in your collection.

Developed in 2005 as a website, LibraryThing now has an app for both Android and iOS devices. The app is very simple in design, with just a few tabs to get you to where you want to go. If you’re adding a book to your collection and want to search for collections that already have that book, you can look at what other LT users have, or you can search on Amazon and the Library of Congress as well as other large libraries world-wide. When you find a matching record, you can add it to your collection and have full capabilities to edit as desired. You can add tags, make notes on where and when you got the book, and basically customize it however you want.

If you love to read, take LibraryThing for a test run.
