2019 National Library Week Proclamation
WHEREAS, the American Library Association annually recognizes a week in April as National Library Week to celebrate the role libraries in building strong communities, and;
WHEREAS, from free access to books and online resources for families to business centers that help support entrepreneurship and computer training, libraries offer opportunity to all, and;
WHEREAS, libraries and librarians support residents through transformative services, programs and expertise; and libraries have long served as trusted institutions where people of all backgrounds come together to connect and empower their communities to make informed decisions by providing free access to information, and;
WHEREAS, libraries are cornerstones of democracy that promote civic engagement by keeping people informed and aware of community events and issues, partner with other civic organizations to meet the needs of our residents, and are a resource for all members of the community regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status, and;
WHEREAS, the mission of the Palm Beach County Library System is to connect communities, inspire thought, and enrich lives, and the vision of the Palm Beach County Library System is to open minds to a world of unlimited possibilities, and;
WHEREAS, the Library System celebrates 50 years of service to county residents in 2019 and joins libraries across America in celebration of National Library Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, assembled in regular session this 2nd day of April 2019, that April 7-13, 2019, in Palm Beach County, is hereby proclaimed
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this proclamation is duly sealed, ribboned and executed by the members of this Board. The foregoing Proclamation was sponsored by Commissioner Hal R. Valeche, and upon unanimous consent of the Board, the Mayor declared the Proclamation duly enacted.
